I would use a pinnacle HD stick, and if I remember, there is a link on their site to the linux version of the software... might want to see if that will work... I have something around here, if I find it, I'll post it.

the other projects ran into snags as I have to test most of them off site due to EMP spikes, so they are on hold since I cant go out to that distant location often : - P
for now, I am busy as I just GOT MY HAM RADIO LICENSE: ... and I am building a my own handheld transceiver... Also, I have experimented in chemistry more, and have made my own photographic emulsion based on silver chloride (homemade), and have done much high speed photography and stop action... Also, I got an arduino and have many projects lined up for it, but my main item besides ham radio is my poor man's CNC machine. besides the stepper control (I used a Elexol USB I/O I had lying around from a dead project I posted on here a while back, so I have to write my own code since it is USB based, but not a big deal...) and so far almost all of the parts were lying around, or are available cheaply.. I'll post results soon as I add the Y axis (then more after the Z axis is done)... and I know this forum has not been active, but I still love the site, and the alpha radiation project got me into a lot of the stuff I do...

UPDATE: I have decided to move some of my "lower" high voltage components into a separate supply due to the smaller size and more frequent use of these components, and I finally found some lever switches locally that have a VERY easily movable lever, and the ability to be N/O or N/C (the servos from my RF link will move the levers, as I do not want to use any more ICs than needed I used a R/C plane controller. Also, I have added the ability to EITHER be R/C or the controls directly on the box. It is powered by eight AAs (four more for the R/C)... I also have plans for attempting kirlian photography with this setup.

It is now (apparently for a while now) illegal to use the material from smoke detectors! I recommend one of the needle sources available at unitednuclear.com as these are non regulated, processed to order (so it wont have even come close to going through a half life) and some are pretty cheap... thought I'd let ya know... too bad though, the material was so easy to obtain, but personally I've moved onto U-238 and unprocessed ore, among other things... also, it might have been a good idea to use a scintillation sheet like that in digital xray machines (well, not a sheet that drives up the price, but maybe a small square and image intensifier)...

do a paint job, I would like to point you to xbox-scene.com... if you need any info. water cooling is pretty common (xoxide.com sells kits I think that use computer versions with a special water block) but it has a fragile (well, easily disconnected and leaks when it does) hose. Also, check your system specs and see if you can put a chip in and run linux! (unless you use live, then I dont know how that would turn out on a 360, I have a modded xbox orig and go on live a lot) what would be cool, is if you used some transparent [like, really clear] UV paint that would then light up when you turn on the cathodes (UV cathodes, of course) and also, make sure you change out the CPU duct or REALLY do something with it, as it is the main window look killer...

first off, hello again inventgeek! i apolgize for the long absence. family emergencies, personal injuries, and school have been keeping me from the inner geek.

well, onto the xbox modding!

let me start off with a list of what i would like to do.
1. cooling, liquid, ionic [glee], more fans, etc. has to still fit in back pack though.
2. window kit, acrylic probably, maybe stick a sweet 120mm green LED fan on it
3. lighting, green cold cathode lights and LEDs of matching green shade.
4. stuffing a bigger HDD in it so i dont have to buy that ridiculously over priced 120gb.
5. requests that you would like to see done, i might just pick yours.

so there is a list of what i would LIKE to do, no commitments yet.

thought it might help to start a new topic, so here it is. First: I am building a small, but hopefully powerful Marx Generator! These take a high voltage input (many times the same device used in the ion coolers) and use it to charge capacitors in parallel through 1 MegOHM resistors (between each lead of each cap). Once the capacitors have been charged, they are discharged in SERIES through spark gaps (I may manually trigger the gaps to get better performance). This theoretically multiplies the input voltage by the number of stages.... Right now I have built the first stack of caps, and have a second in the works (the second is temporarily deemed a "spare" in case something goes wrong). Also, after seeing multiple High Energy EMP pulses begin to affect the HDTV across the house, I have to test this off site. The current step I am on is re rigging my [second:] HV supply (I am adding multiple voltages, a built in SLA battery, a series of safety measures, a remote link for control, and multiple driving circuits to be able to alter settings like voltage, frequency, waveform, pulse/sec, current, etc in the field... Also, I am rebuilding my attempted atomic battery that uses betavoltaics instead of fission or fusion. I powered a clock in my last attempt, but now I strive to power my iPod. Also, I have built a Calcium Carbide Cannon. Water is poured into the bottom of the chamber, into which the calcium carbide is poured. This produces Acetylene Gas which is ignited by the piezoelectric unit from a butane lighter... the pics are on flickr at

I have recently set up one for some friends, but i have been trying to get it to work through gmail, but I need ssl or tls, and my php installation wont run it for some unknown reason (I is enabled, but never loads)...which brings me to my next point, were you able to get ssl/tls working?

almost forgot to post this. after trying a few different PSUs, i got the coil running, but after around 20 to thirty seconds, the capacitor had its dielectric breakdown and a medium sized EMP pulse was emitted, fried my cellphone, the inverter (being driven at a neon sign transformer's resonant frequency, such that I could use between 12 and 24 volts), a digital watch, and set off everything else's overload circuits : - |.....funny how this kind of stuff sneaks up on people lol...luckily my HDTV didn't get much of the pulse.
